The Econet Victoria Falls Marathon is more than just a race, it is a celebration of endurance and dedication against one of the world’s most breathtaking backdrops. This year, the marathon witnessed the emergence of two new stars from the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge (VFSL) team: Doubt Munkombwe and Emmanuel Ncube. Participating in their first marathon, both runners delivered outstanding performances that promise to carry forward the VFSL running legacy established by legends like Jaya Mapfumo and Casper Mpofu.
Doubt Munkombwe: The VFSL Ian Wallace Trophy Winner
Competing in a strong field of 2,122 runners in the 21.1km half marathon, Doubt, a Storeman, finished in a remarkable 45th place, clocking in at 01:24:04 and clinching the VFSL Ian Wallace Trophy, a symbol of excellence and perseverance within the VFSL team.
Doubt’s incredible performance was a result of his rigorous training routine, which includes waking up early each morning to run 20km. Winning the VFSL Ian Wallace Trophy in his debut marathon is a testament to Doubt’s hard work and the promising future that awaits him in long-distance running.

Emmanuel Ncube: A Promising Contender
Hot on Doubt’s heels was Emmanuel Ncube, a bedroom hand at VFSL, who finished 46th in a time of 01:24:10. His impressive finish, just seconds behind his teammate, highlights his potential and sets the stage for future successes in marathon running.
A product of the VFSL Voluntary Training programme which targets local youths for skills training, Emmanuel was energised by the enthusiastic spectators along the route, whose cheers and encouragement propelled him forward.
